The Tampa Bay Rays look to finish out the season with some forward momentum as they host the San Diego Padres at the Trop on Tuesday.
The Padres look to shake off a tough loss on the road yesterday against the Rays and they will send the veteran Edwin Jackson to the mound as he will match up with rookie Blake Snell who hasn’t had much luck in terms of victories but has a nice 3.18 ERA. San Diego has had a tough go of things this season and shipped out a number of pieces at the trade deadline and will not be going to this year’s playoffs as they are well back in the National League West and the wild card race. They do get a second shot at the Rays here though who made it look easy yesterday and while they will be in tough against Snell they do get a veteran in Jackson here who has been through it all and will look to keep his team level headed on the road.

The Rays have also had a tough season after many expected they would be competitive in the American League East but thanks to their rotation underachieving and their bats being underwhelming as it is they have struggled to the worst mark in the division. Tampa will be out for just their 49th win of the season and in the process they could give Snell his fourth victory and according to odds makers this is Tampa Bay’s game to lose as they are -145 favourites at the moment but that could change.
The Padres are 7-23 in their last 30 Tuesday games, 1-5 in their last six games on turf, and 2-5 in their last seven interleague road games while the Rays are 7-3 in their last 10 home games against a righty, 1-5 in their last six interleague home games, and 3-8 in Snell’s last 11 starts. San Diego has one more win than the Rays but it is Tampa who is the better team and they get their rookie another win here.
