Taking the mound for the Padres on Wednesday will be lefty Christian Friedrich. In his 16 starts and 4-8 record this year, Friedrich owns a 4.84 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP in 87.1 innings. Taking a loss against Pittsburgh in his last game, Friedrich went six innings with nine hits and four earned.
San Diego has a few notable hitters on their roster. Wil Myers has logged 122 hits with 78 runs, 23 homers and 70 RBI. Jon Jay is sitting on 80 hits with 35 runs and 23 RBI. Yangervis Solarte has managed 80 hits with 40 runs and 51 RBI so far.
On the other side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Chris Archer for the Rays on Wednesday. In his 25 games and 6-16 record this year, Archer owns a 4.39 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP in 149.2 innings. In a loss to the Yankees his last time out, Archer put up six innings with seven hits and five earned.
The Rays have a few bright spots in their order as well. Evan Longoria has put up 134 hits with 63 runs and 72 RBI with 27 homers. Brad Miller has 103 hits with 57 runs, 24 homers and 55 RBI. Logan Forsythe has hit 100 times with 58 runs and 38 RBI. ****
The Padres are 21-46 in their last 67 game threes of a series, and 2-6 in Friedrich’s last eight starts. San Diego is also 1-4 in Friedrich’s last five road starts, and 1-5 in their last six overall.
As for the Rays, they’re 0-4 in their last four games versus a left-handed starter, and 6-2 in Archer’s last eight interleague starts. Tampa Bay is also 1-7 in Archer’s last eight home starts, and 1-10 in Archer’s last 11 Wednesday starts.
This looks like a good spot to take the over, so I’ll stick with that. I’ll give the Rays a slight advantage for being at home, though, since Archer hasn’t been awful lately.
