PNC Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Miami Marlins in Friday night action.
The Miami Marlins know they won’t be able to catch Washington in the National League East so they’ve set their sights on the Wild Card. The Marlins fell another game off the pace in a 5-4 defeat at Cincinnati Thursday for their third loss in a row. Fish starter Jose Fernandez was charged with all five runs on seven hits over four frames. The Fish mustered eight hits and a free pass with Marcell Ozuna smacking two run homer while Martin Prado went 2-4 with a run and a pair of RBI’s. The Marlins send Tom Koehler to the hill for to face the Pirates for the first time this season. Koehler has been hot with five consecutive quality starts where he has allowed five runs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have kept their postseason hopes alive thanks to a four game winning streak which they have to keep going. The Pirates ended their series at San Francisco with a 6-5 victory where they survived a poor outing from starter Ivan Nova who was charged with four runs on six hits over four frames while four relievers gave up a run. The Buccos mustered seven hits and walked four times with Andrew McCutchen going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI’s while Matt Joyce smacked a PH, two run single. Gerrit Cole is slated to start Friday’s game against the Marlins for his third meeting with the Fish. Cole comes off of an 8-4 loss at the Dodgers with six runs plated on 12 hits in 4.1 frames.
The under is 7-3-1 in Koehler’s last 11 Friday starts and the over is 7-3 in Koehler’s last 10 starts on grass while going 7-3 in Koehler’s last 10 starts overall. Pittsburgh are 45-21 in their last 66 Friday games and are 9-2 in Cole’s last 11 Friday starts while the Pirates are 2-7 in Cole’s last 9 starts. The under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and Miami are 6-14 in the last 20 meetings. If I were to bet this perhaps a small play on Miami but probably nothing to be honest…
