The Washington Nationals look to lay a beating down on the MLB’s basement dwellers as they take on the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field on Saturday.
The Nationals look to keep pace atop the National League standings as they continue their road weekend set against the Atlanta who will try to neutralize Max Scherzer with Tyrell Jenkins in what is a pitching mismatch to say the least. The Nats have been rock solid all season long and possess a very dangerous lineup that can compete with anybody in baseball and on days when they have Scherzer or Stephen Strasburg throwing it seems like they step up their game even more as their aces make it very easy to play in front of. Washington has gone 4-1 in Scherzer’s last five starts and are even better when he has four days rest which is the case here as they aim to make a statement to the Cubs, Dodgers, and Giants that they are to be considered at the very least a co-favourite to win the NL pennant.

The Braves meanwhile are in the exact opposite position as they continue to reel through a tough season and while the expectation was that they would be a bottom feeder in spring training it is still a tough reality to be in, especially for the Atlanta baseball culture that has grown accustomed to winning. The Braves do have some bright spots in the lineup led by first baseman Freddie Freeman who will be a part of the core moving forward after signing a lengthy contract extension, as well as Julio Teheran who is having a nice bounce back season all the while playing with one of the worst lineups in baseball which is no easy task with each passing start.
The Nats are 4-0 in Scherzer’s last four starts against the NL East, 4-1 in his last five starts overall, and 5-2 in their last seven road games while the Braves are 18-40 in their last 58 games three’s of a series, 3-9 in their last 12 against the NL East, and 18-42 in their last 60 home gaes. This is Washington’s division and they have the huge edge here in a game where they should cruise without issue.
