The MLB is bringing us series-ending action on Sunday from Oriole Park, as the Houston Astros and the Baltimore Orioles clash one last time.
This will be game four of the set. Each team got a win on Thursday and Friday, then on Saturday the Astros dominated with a 12-2 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
For Sunday’s game, the Astros will be bringing out lefty Dallas Keuchel. In his 24 starts and 7-12 record, Keuchel owns a 4.76 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP in 153 innings. Keuchel took a loss his last time out against the Cardinals, going five innings with six hits and six earned.
The Astros have a lot to be happy about on offense. Jose Altuve is having an MVP year with 177 hits, 89 runs, 20 homers and 81 RBI. George Springer has hit 130 times with 92 runs, 25 homers and 72 RBI. Carlos Correa holds 123 hits with 60 runs and 84 RBI so far.
Over on the Orioles’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Yovani Gallardo in the starting role Sunday. Over his 16 starts and 4-4 record this year, Gallardo has posted a 5.18 ERA with a 1.61 WHIP in 83.1 innings of work. Gallardo took a no-decision against the Red Sox his last time out, going five innings with four hits and three earned runs.
Baltimore has a few hitters of note up top as well. Manny Machado has hit 144 times with 84 runs, 28 homers and 74 RBI. Jonathan Schoop has 131 hits with 64 runs, 18 homers and 63 RBI. Adam Jones sits on 130 hits with 72 runs, 24 homers and 72 RBI.
The Astros are 3-10 in their last 13 game fours of a series, and 5-1 in their last six games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. Houston is also 1-4 in Keuchel’s last five starts, and 1-4 in Keuchel’s last five Sunday starts.
As for the Orioles, they’re 4-0 in their last five Sunday games, and 0-5 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter. Baltimore is also 5-1 in Gallardo’s last six home starts, but 0-4 in Gallardo’s last four starts against a team with a winning record.
I think I’m going to follow the trends here and take Gallardo and the Orioles for the finale victory.
