The St. Louis Cardinals end their road series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to stay in the Wild Card hunt but they are far from predictable. The Cardinals saw a five game winning streak come to an end in a 4-2 defeat at Citizens Bank Park Friday. Cards starter Luke Weaver took the loss with three runs scoring on nine hits over five frames. The Redbirds posted nine hits with Jeremy Hazelbaker cracking a two run homer. The Cardinals end the series at Philadelphia with Mike Leake on the mound Sunday. Leake did not get a decision in a 6-4 win at the Cubs last time out with three runs scoring in six innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies drive to reach .500 is at a now or never stage with the end of the season in sight. The Phillies had lost three of four before a few clutch hits and great pitching got them back in the win column on Friday night. Phils starter Jeremy Hellickson got the win with both runs scoring on seven hits through seven innings. Philadelphia pounded out eleven hits with Aaron Altherr went deep while Cesar Hernandez homered and scored twice. Vince Velasquez toes the rubber for his first career start against the Cardinals. Velasquez comes off a 15-5 loss to the Dodgers with five runs allowed on seven hits including three homers in 5.2 frames.
The over is 7-2 in the Cardinals last 9 versus National League East and is 21-7-2 in their last 30 Sunday games while going 15-5-1 in their last 21 overall. The over is 6-2 in Philadelphia’s last 8 Sunday games and is 18-7-2 in their last 27 overall while going 18-7-2 in their last 27 on grass. St. Louis are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and the Over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings. I’m not a fan of this so I’ll be a homer…
