The Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be closing out their MLB series on Sunday from PNC Park.
This will be game three of the set. On Friday, the Marlins eked out a 6-5 win. In Saturday’s game, the Marlins bagged another close one 3-1.

Taking the mound for the Marlins on Sunday will be RHP Jose Urena. In his 20 games and four starts with a 1-4 record this year, Urena has put up a 6.80 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP in 42.1 innings. Arena took a loss in his last start in Cincinnati, giving up seven hits and five runs in six innings.
The Marlins have a few big hitters at the top of their order. Martin Prado has bagged 150 hits with 58 runs and 58 RBI so far. Christian Yelich holds 139 hits with 64 runs and 71 RBI. Marcel Ozuna sits on 125 hits with 63 runs, 22 homers and 64 RBI.
On the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Ryan Vogelsong in the starting role Sunday. In his 15 games (five starts) and 2-2 record this year, Vogelsong owns a 3.20 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 39.1 innings. Vogelsong got a win his last time out in San Francisco, going 5.2 innings with nine hits and four earned.
The Pirates have some pretty enviable hitters as well. Starling Marte has put up 133 hits with 65 runs and 41 RBI this year. Josh Harrison holds 113 hits with 47 runs and 49 RBI. Andrew Mccutcheon has been the big swinger with 17 homers, 51 RBI, 107 hits and 62 runs.
The Marlins are 8-1 in their last nine Sunday games, and 1-8 in Urena’s last nine starts. Miami is also 0-5 in Urena’s last five starts against the NL Central, and 0-5 in Urena’s last five starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 9-4 in their last 13 game threes of a series, and 2-5 in Vogelsong’s last seven starts. Pittsburgh is also 4-11 in Vogelsong’s last 15 home starts, and 1-5 in Vogelsong’s last six starts with five days’ rest.
I don’t trust either starting pitcher here, so I’m going with the over. I’ll give Pittsburgh a slight edge for the win, though.
