On Monday from PNC Park, the Houston Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be kicking off their series.
The Astros just played a series against the Orioles. Houston lost the first game, then won the next two. On Sunday in the finale, Houston bagged a 5-3 victory.

As for the Pirates, they’re coming off a series against the Marlins. Pittsburgh lost the first two games of that set, and on Sunday the Pirates made it a sweep with a 3-2 loss.
For Sunday’s game, the Astros will be bringing out RHP Doug Fister. In his 24 games and 11-8 record this year, Fister has tallied a 3.76 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP in 146 innings. Fister took a loss his last time out, going four innings against the Cardinals with seven hits and four earned.
Houston’s offense has been one of the most talked-about in the league this year. Jose Altuve has been stellar on 178 hits with 90 runs, 20 homers and 82 RBI. George Springer has hit 131 times with 93 runs, 25 homers and 72 RBI. Carlos Correa has hit 125 times with 61 runs, 18 homers and 86 RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jameson Taillon in the starting role Monday. Over 11 starts and a 3-2 record this year, Tailon has posted a 3.00 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP in 66 innings. Tailon recorded a no-decision his last time out, going six innings with three earned against the Giants.
The Pittsburgh hitters have several great names among them. Starling Marte has 133 hits with 65 runs and 41 RBI so far. Josh Harrison has 113 hits with 47 runs and 49 RBI. Andrew McCutchen holds 109 hits with 63 runs, 17 homers and 51 RBI thus far.
The Astros are 27-57 in their last 84 against the NL Central and 2-5 in their last eight overall. Houston is also 3-9 in their last 12 games against a right-handed starter and 24-10 in their last 34 interleague games.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 6-1 in their last seven Monday games, and 5-1 in their last six game ones of a series. Pittsburgh is also 5-0 in Tailon’s last five home starts, and 7-1 in Tailon’s last eight starts overall.
If the Astros can get some solid pitching here, they’ve got a great shot at taking the victory with their scorching offense. Give me Houston.
