The Chicago Cubs hope to keep rolling when they visit Petco Park to face the San Diego Padres Monday.
The Chicago Cubs have not wrapped up the National League Central yet so I don’t expect any letup until they do. Despite taking a rare one on the chin in an 11-4 loss at Coors Field Sunday but the team has still won seven of eleven. Cubbies starter Jason Hammel was charged with ten runs (six earned) on ten hits including two homers over 3.1 frames to fall to 13-6. Chicago was held to seven hits and a BB with Addison Russell going deep with a pair of RBI’s and two runs. Veteran left hander Jon Lester toes the rubber versus the Padres for the third time in 2016. Lester comes off a 6-1 win against the Brewers with a run plated on three hits over 6.2 innings.

The San Diego Padres have been out of playoff contention for quite awhile so getting a look at players for 2017 has to be a priority. The Padres put on a show Sunday afternoon in a 9-1 rout of the visiting Diamondbacks. SD starter Luis Perdomo upped his record to 6-7 with an unearned run scoring through seven innings on just five hits. San Diego logged eleven hits and walked three times with Alex Dickerson going solo while Travis Jankowski smacked a two run homer. Alexei Ramirez knocked in two more with every starter reached base but one. San Diego hands the ball to Edwin Jackson for the start against the Cubs who he last saw in 2012. Jackson comes off a 16-1 defeat at Tampa Bay where he allowed eight runs on nine hits in four frames.
The Cubs are 20-6 in their last 26 overall and are 20-6 in their last 26 games on grass while going 16-5 in their last 21 Monday games. The over is 7-1 in San Diego’s last 8 Monday games while the Padres are 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings. San Diego has done okay versus Chicago but hopefully the Cubs bounce back…
