The Washington Nationals look to shake off a tough road loss at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles yesterday as the two sides meet up again on Tuesday.
The Nats face a pivotal road set here at Camden Yards as they aim to take down top spot in the division and in the National League as the playoffs approach while they face off with an Orioles side that is clawing their way through the AL East and need to keep winning to stay in the hunt. Washington is loaded top to bottom and look like a group that can go on a serious playoff run but they have also had that tag for the last few years and we have yet to see anything from them in October and another disappointing and premature exit could extend the discussion of the Nats being a playoff underachiever. They will send Reynaldo Lopez to the bump here as he will face off against Kevin Gausman who will look to shake off his ugly 4-10 season and lower his 4.11 ERA.

The Orioles meanwhile had been a mainstay atop the AL East standings for most of the season but a recent slide and a surge from both the Jays and Red Sox have them playing catch in the divisional race as they are two games back of both teams heading into tonight’s game. Baltimore has one of the most potent lineups in baseball but their Achilles heel has been their starting pitching as beyond Chris Tillman they don’t have a whole lot and even he was shelled in his last start which has O’s fans sweating as the wild card race heats up. Baltimore will look for a solid outing from Gausman here but they have been few and far between and even though they are at home here where they have been lights out all season they are in tough against a hard hitting Nats side.
The Nats are 10-2 in their last 12 during game two of a series, 6-2 in their last eight interleague road games, and 2-6 in their last eight against the AL East while the O’s are 4-0 in their last four against the NL East, 15-6 in their last 21 interleague home games, and 35-17 in their last 52 home games overall. Baltimore are the favourites here but the Nats are the better team and I see them getting after Gausman here in a big way.
