Headed our way Wednesday in MLB action, we’ve got another installment of the series between the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
This will be game two of the set. In Tuesday’s opener, Toronto pulled off a 7-2 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
Taking the mound for the Angels on Wednesday will be RHP Matt Shoemaker. Over his 24 starts and 7-13 record this year, Shoemaker has a 4.14 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 145.2 innings. Shoemaker got a win his last time out, going seven innings with five hits and two earned against the Mariners.
It’s pretty easy to find the stars on the Angels lineup. Yunel Escobar has hit 140 times with 58 runs and 34 RBI. Mike Trout owns 133 hits with 94 runs, 23 homers and 77 RBI. Kole Calhoun has hit 123 times with 72 runs and 56 RBI.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Marco Estrada in the starting role. In his 21 starts and 7-5 record this year, Estrada has put together a 3.20 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 132.1 innings. His last time out in New York, Estrada logged a no-decision in four innings with five hits and five earned.
Toronto has an enviable offense. Josh Donaldson has hit 132 times with 97 runs, 28 homers and 81 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion holds 125 hits with 78 runs, 35 homers and 101 RBI. Kevin Pillar has 111 hits with 46 runs and 45 RBI.
The Angels are 1-4 in their last five game twos of a series, and 7-15 in Shoemaker’s last 22 starts. LA is also 2-5 in Shoemaker’s last seven starts in game two of a series, and 0-4 in Shoemaker’s last four road starts.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re 6-2 in their last eight game twos of a series, and 39-18 in their last 57 Wednesday games. Toronto is also 5-1 in Estrada’s last six Wednesday starts, and 10-4 in Estrada’s last 14 starts overall.
I like Estrada in the pitching matchup here, so Toronto shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a victory.
