Coming up in MLB action from Globe Life Park on Thursday, the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers will be kicking off their series.
The Rangers are coming off a set against the Reds this week. Texas dropped the first game 3-0, and on Wednesday eked out a 6-5 win to split the series.

As for the Indians, they just finished up against the A’s. The two teams split the first two games, and in Wednesday’s rubber match the Indians fell 5-1.
The Indians will be putting Josh Tomlin out on the mound for Thursday’s game. In his 23 starts and 11-7 record, Tomlin has put up a 4.39 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 141.1 innings. Last time out, Tomlin took another loss with 4.1 innings, nine hits and six earned against the Blue Jays.
Cleveland has several notable players up top in their order. Francisco Lindor has put up 151 hits with 83 runs and 64 RBI. Jason Kipnis sits on 137 hits with 74 runs, 20 homers and 67 RBI. Jose Ramirez has 132 hits with 69 runs and 57 RBI.
Over on the Rangers’ side, we’ll be seeing Cole Hamels in the starting role. In his 25 games and 13-4 record this season, Hamels owns a 2.80 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP in 160.2 innings. Hamels bagged a win his last time out with 7.1 innings, three hits and one earned against Tampa.
Texas has some big hitters in their lineup as well. Ian Desmond has logged 146 hits with 87 runs, 21 homers and 75 RBI. Adrian Beltre has 133 hits with 21 homers, 80 RBI and 62 runs. Rougned Odor has 131 hits with 73 runs, 23 homers and 62 RBI.
The Indians are 20-6 in their last 26 Thursday games, and 22-7 in their last 29 games against a left-handed starter. Cleveland is also 39-19 in their last 58 game ones of a series, and 3-8 in their last 11 road games.
As for the Rangers, they’re 4-1 in their last five game ones of a series, and 7-2 in their last nine against the American League Central. Texas is also 10-1 in Hamels’ last 11 starts in game one of a series, and 8-2 in Hamels’ last 10 starts with five days’ rest.
I like Hamels to pitch well in this one, so I’ll take the Rangers to get a victory in the opener.
