San Diego has been hot and cold at times but they are on the cool side right now. The Padres have dropped three in a row following an 6-3 loss to the visiting Cubs. SD starter Paul Clemens fell to 2-3 with five runs plated (four earned) on seven hits over 5.1 frames. San Diego was held to six hits and three bases on balls with Wil Myers, Ryan Schimpf and Brett Wallace driving in runs. The Miami Marlins are right in the middle of the NL Wild Card race although staying there is the tricky part. The Marlins had won four of five before surging Kansas City knocked them off 5-2 on Thursday.Fish starter Tom Koehler gave up four runs (three earned)on seven hits and a pair of free passes. The Marlins posted eight hits and walked twice with Marcell Ozuna and JT Realmuto scoring unearned runs.David Phelps has come out of the Marlins bullpen to make three consecutive starts. Phelps has gone 2-1 in this stretch with a 0.98 WHIP and 1.65 ERA covering 16.1 innings.
San Diego are 5-17 in their last 22 road games and are 13-5 in their last 18 Friday games while the over is 7-3-1 in their last 11 Friday games. The over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Miami and San Diego are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings. I’m taking Miami but my gut says this isn’t a playoff team…
