National League East rivals the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets meet in the Big Apple Friday.
For quite awhile the Philadelphia Phillies had hopes of reaching .500 but that goal has been getting further away. The Phillies will be looking for back to back wins after knocking off the White Sox 5-3 on Wednesday. Phils starter Jerad Eickhoff upped his record to 9-12 with two runs given up on four hits over six frames. Philadelphia totaled ten hits with Cesar Hernandez and Tommy Joseph going deep while Aaron Altherr knocked in two runs and scored. Left hander Adam Morgan gets the ball versus the rival Mets for the first time in 2016. Morgan did not get a decision in a 4-3 loss to St. Louis with a run allowed on five hits over six innings.

The New York Mets are clinging to playoff hopes but they need a season ending hot streak. Perhaps the Mets are heading that way after a 10-6 win at St. Louis gave the team wins in four of five. NYM starter Seth Lugo tossed five scoreless innings although three r0elievers were touched for all six runs. New York pounded out 15 hits with Alejandro De Aza going 2-4 with a homer, five RBI’s and ttwo runs while Rene Rivera drove in a pair. The ageless wonder Bartolo Colon draws Friday’s start against the rival Phillies. Over his last four outings, Colon has given up six runs on 31 hits in 24 innings of work.
The over is 7-1 in Philadelphia’s last 8 road games and is 15-5-2 in their last 22 overall while going 15-5-2 in their last 22 on grass. The over is 8-1 in the Mets last 9 overall and is 8-1 in their last 9 on grass while New York are 5-13 in their last 18 home games. Philadelphia are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings in New York and are 15-36 in the last 51 meetings. I’ll back the old guy here…
