The St. Louis Cardinals look to stay red hot and shake off a home loss to the Mets last night as they welcome the Oakland Athletics to Busch Stadium on Friday.
The Athletics head into St. Louis for an interleague road set with the Cardinals this weekend and will look to snap out of some pretty ugly trends in the process as they are coming off an off day yesterday. Oakland has had a tough go this season despite playing in some very competitive games and actually looking like a playoff contender in some but after shipping out Rich Hill and Josh Reddick it was clear they were going back to the drawing board and looking to regain some top prospects after losing some big pieces in recent trades. Oakland is still reeling after the Josh Donaldson deal with the Blue Jays and are seeing he and former shortstop prospect Addison Russell thriving in their new digs and it can only sting to see some of their key chips amounting to very little with the teams current makeup.

The Cardinals meanwhile let one get away from them last night as the Mets snapped out of their inconsistent streak and hung 10 runs up on the Cards at Busch Stadium. St. Louis is an interesting group as they have plenty of all-star caliber players but have flown under the radar this season despite possessing one of the best record in the National League and if they get into a wild card spot they will be a very tough team to finish off come playoff time. St. Louis will send Luke Weaver to the mound here as he will face off with Ross Detwiler who is 1-2 with a 5.90 ERA this season in a game that currently has the line leaning heavily to the Cardinals.
Oakland is 2-10 in their last 12 road games, 0-7 in their last seven interleague games, and 3-8 in their last 11 overall while the Cards are 7-2 in their last nine overall, 4-1 in their last five Friday games, and 6-14 in their last 20 against a lefty. Oakland is in over their heads here in another interleague show down and while the odds are chalk you have to take the Cards here.
