The Chicago White Sox look to keep their winning ways afloat as they host the Seattle Mariners at the Cell to close out their weekend series.
The Mariners look to get back in the win column after getting dominated by Jose Quintana last night in what was a 9-3 final for the home side and if they can’t generate a win here they will be in deep trouble in the AL wild card race as a number of other teams are starting to make up ground. The Mariners have a playoff caliber roster and a pretty solid rotation that is led by Fleix Hernandez and tonight’s pitcher Taijuan Walker, and while the flame thrower doesn’t have the record to indicate his success this season he is still a very solid arm and can give his team a victory on any given night. Walker will go up against Carlos Rodon in this one who is 4-8 with a 4.02 ERA this season and rivals that mark set by Walker who is also 4-8 with a slightly higher 4.14 ERA.

The White Sox will likely fall well short of the playoffs this season after looking like a contender in the early part of the season but that won’t stop them from thriving in the spoiler role for the final 30+ games of the season. Chicago is more than just Chris Sale and Jose Quintana as they have some pretty solid pieces in place in their lineup that includes Todd Frazier, Jose Abreu, and Adam Eatonand if they can add a few pieces in the offseason they could be back in the playoff light as early as next year.
The M’s are 5-2 in their last seven against the AL Central, 1-4 in their last five overall, and 5-12 in their last 17 Sunday games while the White Sox are 5-2 in their last seven home games, 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games, and 4-1 in Rodon’s last five home starts. The Sox have been playing well of late but this is quickly becoming must win territory for the Mariners and I think they get one here.
