Pitching for the Angels on Sunday will be southpaw Tyler Skaggs. In his six starts and 1-3 record this year, Skaggs has a 5.70 ERA with a 1.67 WHIP in 30 innings. Skaggs put up another loss his last time out against the Blue Jays, with four innings, four hits and four runs.
The Angels have a few big hitters up top in their order. Yunel Escobar has put up 140 hits with 58 runs and 34 RBI. Mike Trout has hit 139 times with 97 runs, 24 homers and 82 RBI. Kole Calhoun sits on 128 hits with 76 runs and 58 RBI.
Over on the Detroit side, we’ll be seeing RHP Anibal Sanchez in action on Sunday. In his 29 games (21 starts) Sanchez holds a 5.83 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP in 126.2 innings. Sanchez got a win his last time out against Minnesota, going seven innings with six hits and three earned.
Detroit has a few big bats in their lineup as well. Miguel Cabrera has hit 148 times with 72 runs, 28 homers and 80 RBI. Ian Kinsler holds 140 hits with 95 runs, 23 homers and 66 RBI. Victor Martinez has hit 138 times with 55 runs, 23 homers and 75 RBI.
The Angels are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games, and 3-7 in Skaggs’ last 10 road starts. LA is also 0-5 in Skaggs’ last five starts overall, and 0-4 in Skaggs’ last four starts on grass.
The Tigers are 2-5 in their last seven game threes of a sereis, and 7-19 in Sanchez’s last 26 starts. Detroit is also 8-22 in Sanchez’s last 30 starts with four days’ rest, and 1-6 in Sanchez’s last seven home starts.
I’ll take the Tigers here, as I don’t trust Skaggs for much of anything lately. He’s been struggling quite a bit.
