Pitching for the Rays on Sunday will be RHP Chris Archer. In his 27 starts and 7-17 record this year, Archer holds a 4.11 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP in 162 innings. Archer took a loss his last time out, going five innings with five hits and two earned against Boston.
The Rays have some nice hitters in the top few spots. Evan Longoria leads the way on 142 hits with 30 homers, 79 RBI and 68 runs. Brad Miller has hit 111 times with 59 runs, 25 homers and 63 RBI. Logan Forsythe has hit 104 times with 60 runs and 41 RBI.
Over on the Astros side, we’ll be seeing RHP Doug Fister on Sunday. In 25 starts and a 12-8 record, Fister has produced a 3.59 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP in 153 innings. Fister got a win in his last appearance, going seven innings against Pittsburgh with three hits and no earned.
The Astros have some great hitters up top in their lineup. Jose Altuve continues to rip on 181 hits with 91 runs, 20 homers and 85 RBI. George Springer has hit 134 times with 96 runs, 25 homers and 72 RBI. Carlos Correa holds 130 hits with 65 runs, 19 homers and 88 RBI.
The Rays are 4-0 in their last four game threes of a series, and 3-11 in Archer’s last 14 starts. Tampa Bay is also 1-4 in Archer’s last five starts on grass, and 0-4 in Archer’s last four Sunday starts.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 6-1 in Fister’s last seven starts in game three of a series, and 5-1 in Fister’s last six starts against a team with a losing record. Houston is also 15-6 in Fister’s last 21 starts, and 1-5 in Fister’s last six home starts.
I like Fister in the pitching matchup here, so I’ll stick with the Astros for the win in this one.
