As for the Orioles, they’re fresh off a three-game set with the Yankees. Baltimore dropped the first two games by a combined 27-9, then on Sunday prevented the sweep with a 5-0 win.
Pitching for the Blue Jays on Monday will be RHP Marco Estrada. In his 22 starts and 7-6 record this year, Estrada owns a 3.47 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 137.1 innings. In his last outing against the Angels, Estrada put up five innings with 10 hits and six runs for a loss.
Toronto has a stacked roster up top. Josh Donaldson holds 140 hits with 105 runs, 33 homers and 91 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion has hit 130 times with 36 homers, 106 RBI and 82 runs. Kevin Pillar has been banged up lately but still has 116 hits with 49 runs and 45 RBI.
Taking the mound on the Orioles’ side on Monday will be lefty Wade Miley. In his 24 starts and 8-10 record, Miley has produced a 5.51 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP in 134 innings. Miley got a win his last time out with five innings, seven hits and two runs against the Nationals.
Baltimore boasts a nice roster of hitters as well. Manny Machado has logged 158 hits with 91 runs, 31 homers and 81 RBI. Adam Jones has put up 137 hits with 74 runs, 24 homers and 74 RBI. Jonathan Schoop has put up 138 hits, 69 runs, 20 homers and 68 RBI.
The Blue Jays are 6-0 in Estrada’s last six starts with four days’ rest, and 6-1 in Estrada’s last seven road starts. Toronto is also 6-1 in Estrada’s last seven starts against the AL East, and 6-1 in Estrada’s last seven starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 0-4 in their last four against the American League East, and 47-22 in their last 69 home games. Baltimore is also 39-14 in their last 54 games versus a right-handed starter, and 38-17 in their last 55 games against a team with a winning road record.
I’ll take the Blue Jays here; Estrada has been pitching fairly well lately overall and I’m just following the win/loss trends.
