The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs meet up again at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night after a crazy, extra innings affair last night.
The Pirates look to continue their pursuit of a wild card spot in the National League with a victory on the road against the league leading Chicago Cubs and while a win over any team will help their cause, I think a successful series against the game’s best would go a long way in building some confidence. Pittsburgh was projected to be a top end team this season and some even had them pegged as a World Series threat, but thanks to a slow start and a very strong year from the Cubs they haven’t quite lived up to expectations and anything short of a playoff appearance would be a completely underachievement. The Pirates will start Chad Kuhl in this one as he will face off against Kyle Hendricks in a pitcing matchup that favours the home team but after both teams hit the ball well yesterday we could see more of it again today.

The Cubs have been the cream of the crop in the MLB this season and are looking like a shoe in to lay claim to the top spot in the National League which would give them the ever important home field advantage until a potential World Series berth. Chicago is loaded across the board as they can beat you in a number of different ways but their rotation looks incredibly daunting in a playoff series as you will have to deal with Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, and Jason Hammel who make up a very strong front four and with a strong bullpen in place as well this looks like as good a year as any for the Cubs to snap their almost unbelievable championship drought.
The Pirates are 4-0 in their last four games against a righty, 7-1 in Kuhl’s last eight games, and 4-0 in their last four against the NL Central while the Cubs are 20-6 in their last 26 games overall, 47-17 in their last 62 against the NL Central, and 54-19 in their last 73 home games against a righty. This looks like another blowout game for the Cubs after an extended outing last night as they have the pitching edge and will be out to leave no doubt in this one.
