The Miami Marlins and New York Mets battle for second in NL East action on Wednesday.
The Miami Marlins appeared destined for second in the National League East but that’s up in the air now. The Marlins struggled again and have lost five of six after Tuesday’s 7-4 defeat at Citi Field. Fish starter Tom Koehler was hither with five runs on ten hits over five frames to absorb the loss. Miami managed nine hits and walked twice with JT Realmuto going solo while Christian Yelich clubbed a two run jack. David Phelps is slated to start against the Mets for the first time since 2015. Phelps did not get a decision in a 7-6 victory versus San Diego with four runs given up over 3.2 innings.

The New York Mets have gotten themselves back in playoff contention but need to continue to play well. The Mets have looked listless for weeks but after knocking off the visiting Marlins on Tuesday the NYM have won eight of eleven and have taken over second in the National League East. New York starter Seth Lugo won it with two runs allowed through six innings. The Mets pounded out 13 hits and walked four times with Asdrubal Cabrera gong deep and driving in two while Curtis Granderson cracked two bombs and knocked in three. Bartolo Colon toes the rubber for the second time this season versus the Marlins Wednesday. Colon comes off a 9-4 win versus Philadelphia with all four runs scoring over seven frames.
The under is 8-1 in Miami’s last 9 overall and is 8-1 in their last 9 on grass while the Marlins are 2-6 in their last 8 Wednesday games. The over is 11-3 in the Mets last 14 overall and is 11-3 in their last 14 on grass while the Mets are 1-12 in Colon’s last 13 Wednesday starts. Should be a good one but the hotter team….
