The Philadelphia Phillies head south to take on the Miami Marlins on Monday.
The Philadelphia Phillies hopes of reaching .500 have been fading and they are probably looking to form a potential lineup for 2017. The fade continued as the Phillies fell to the visiting Braves 2-0 on Sunday as the offense never got untracked. Phils starter Jake Thompson was outstanding with a solo jack served up over seven frames pinning him with the loss. Philadelphia was held to five hits and walked three times with Freddy Galvis getting on base twice with a single and walk. Jerad Eickhoff gets the series opening start at Miami on Monday. Eickhoff is coming off of a 3-2 defeat versus visiting Washington with all three runs allowed over six innings.

The Miami Marlins have their backs against the wall as the postseason has been getting further away. The playoffs got even further away as the Fish blew a two run lead in the 9th in a 6-5 defeat at Cleveland on Sunday. Marlins starter Tom Koehler tossed six scoreless innings before Kyle Barraclough giving up three with Fernando Rodney allowing three in the 8th to absorb the loss. Miami pounded out eleven hits and walked twice with JT Realmuto going deep while Ichiro Suzuki and Miguel Rojas each drove in a run and scored. The Marlins send reliever Jake Esch to the bump for his second career start. Esch dropped his only start at the Mets 5-2 with both runs allowed on seven hits and three BB in 4.1 frames.
The over is 9-2 in Philadelphia’s last 11 road games and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 Monday games while the over is 16-7-2 in their last 25 overall. Miami are 1-7 in their last 8 overall and are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass while going 3-7 in their last 10 home games. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. Pick your poison and remember Esch is a reliever and this will be pitcher by committee for Miami so I’m not interested…
