The Kansas City Royals hope to keep their faint playoff dreams alive with a win at the Minnesota Twins Monday.
The Kansas City Royals still have a shot at the playoffs but have to win a lot of games and get some help. The Royals didn’t help themselves in a 6-5 loss to Detroit where they blew a late lead and have now lost back to back games. KC starter Edinson Volquez gave up four runs over 6.2 frames before Joakim Soria gave up two runs in the 8th to blow the save and take the loss. Kansas City totaled seven hits and four walks with Alcides Escobar going solo while Jarrod Dyson drove in two and scored.Veteran Ian Kennedy gets the ball against Minnesota who he sees for the 4th time in 2016. Kennedy struggled last time out in a 5-4 loss to the Yankees with four runs scoring over 6.1 innings.

The Minnesota Twins never got anything going in 2016 and are just trying to finish the year on a positive note. The trend continued in a 13-11, 12 inning loss to the visiting White Sox on Sunday as a 9-5 lead wasn’t enough. Twins starter Andrew Albers gave up five runs (three earned) through 4.2 innings with four relievers allowing eight runs. Minnesota amassed 18 hits and six walks with John Ryan Murphy, Byron Buxton, Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano each slugging long balls. Rookie Jose Berrios makes his 10th start of the season and second against Kansas City. On the season Berrios is 2-4 in nine starts with a 1.97 WHIP and 9.24 ERA in 37 innings.
The over is 6-1-1 in Kansas City last 8 overall and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass while the Royals are 8-2 in their last 10 road games. Minnesota are 5-16 in their last 21 games on grass and are 3-9 in their last 12 home games while going 7-20 in their last 27 overall. Kansas City are 23-9 in the last 32 meetings in Minnesota and the under is 17-7-3 in the last 27 meetings. I think it’s now or never for the Royals…
