The St. Louis Cardinals square off with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Tuesday action.
The St. Louis Cardinals are still in the mix for the playoffs despite not playing well. The Cardinals had dropped seven of ten before Monday’s 12-6 victory at PNC Park. Cards starter Adam Wainwright gave up four runs on seven hits and four BB over five frames with Miguel Socolovich allowing two more. The Redbirds racked up 14 hits and five walks with Jedd Gyorko and Matt Adams going deep while Wainwright and Stephen Piscotty combined for five RBI’s. The Cardinals go with rookie Luke Weaver on the hill Tuesday for his 5th start. Weaver comes off a 3-1 loss to the Brewers with all three runs given up over six innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been struggling for the past week or so which might have ended their postseason dreams. The Pirates have now dropped a game below .500 following Monday’s defeat to the division rival Cardinals. Buccos starter Chad Kuhl gave up three runs over two innings with Jeff Locke allowing four and Antonio Bastardo, two. Pitt banged out 12 hits with Adam Frazier going solo while Andrew McCutchen smacked a two run bomb. Josh Bell drove in two more but the bats couldn’t keep up with the arms. Ryan Vogelsong is slated to oppose the Cardinals for the first time this season. Vogelsong comes off of a 6-5 defeat at the Cubs with five runs plated on six hits and three BB in five frames.
St. Louis are 9-4 in their last 13 road games. PIT are 3-7 in Vogelsong’s last 10 starts and Pittsburgh are 3-7 in Vogelsong’s last 10 starts on grass. The Cardinals are over rated and undependable but I’m going with them here…
