The Washington Nationals look to create some separation in the NL East as they host the Atlanta Braves in DC on Tuesday night.
The Braves have had a very disappointing season and will not be going to this year’s postseason but they do have some nice pieces in place and are getting another standout season from Freedie Freeman who remains an integral part of the team’s core moving forward. Atlanta will be in tough here though as they send Willams Perez to the hill to face off against Gio Gonzalez and while the latter hasn’t had a great season by Washington pitching standards he is serviceable and gives the Nats the edge here. The Braves are 8-2 in their last 10 overall though and will look to continue to play the spoiler role here as the Nats have some company in the NL East, and while they are likely to wrap up the division without much trouble they want to control their own destiny.

The Nationals will look to continue their dominance over the NL East as they are 42-19 in their last 61 against their divisional foes and with a win here against the Braves they can add to the tally and according to the odds makers they are certainly in line to do it. Washington is in great shape to emerge out of the East and look like a serious threat to win the NL pennant this season and with the playoffs around the corner they will be out to generate some momentum and head into October playing at the top of their game.
The Braves are 7-0 in Perez’ last seven starts against the NL East, 9-3 in his last 12 overall, and are 8-2 in their last 10 games while the Nats are 2-6 in their last eight Tuesday games, 11-5 in their last 16 during game two of a series, and 4-0 in Gonzalez’ last four home starts. The Nats should have no issues here as Gio gets them a big outing and the offense takes care of the rest.
