The Toronto Blue Jays look to hold on to the East lead by beating the New York Yankees Wednesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays have not been playing well the past week which has made their lead in the American League East tedious. The Blue Jays certainly haven’t played like a first place team with defeats in four of five of five with a late rally falling short in a 7-6 loss at the Yankees. Jays starter Aaron Sanchez gave up three runs over seven frames before Jason Grilli allowed four. Toronto allowed eleven hits and walked eight times with Edwin Encarnacion going deep and driving in two while Kevin Pillar knocked in two and scored. The Blue Jays have scheduled Marcus Stroman for Wednesday’s outing versus the Yankees. Stroman comes off of an 8-3 defeat at Tampa Bay with four runs allowed (three earned) over six innings.

The New York Yankees are still in the running for a Wild Card but need wins and some help. The Yankees ran their winning streak to three times as they survived some shaky work out of the bullpen. Yanks starter Luis Cesa allowed to runs through 5.1 innings with DelIn Betance giving up a pair of 9th inning runs. The Bronx Bombers received homers from Tyler Austin, Chase Headley and Brian McCann who combined for five RBI’s. With injuries to the rotation New York might make a call up from the minors or go with a pitcher by committee.
The under is 15-5-1 in Toronto’s last 21 on grass and is 14-6 in their last 20 road games while the Blue Jays are 40-19 in their last 59 Wednesday games. The over is 7-3 in the Yankees last 10 home games. Toronto are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings and the under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. Please check back when the Yankees name a starter…
