Coming up Thursday from PNC Park, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Reds are coming off a three-game set against the Mets. Cincinnati lost all three games by a combined 16-6 score.

As for the Pirates, they just finished up against the Cardinals. Pittsburgh lost the first two games of that series, and on Wednesday the Pirates eked out a 4-3 win to avoid the sweep.
For Thursday’s game, the Reds will be bringing out RHP Dan Straily. In his 29 games (26 starts), Straily owns a 3.83 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 159.2 innings. Straily got a win his last time up against the Cardinals, going 5.2 innings with three hits and one earned.
Cincinnati has a few noteworthy hitters at their disposal. Joey Votto has hit 143 times with 85 runs, 22 homers and 80 RBI. Brandon Phillips sits on 137 hits with 62 runs and 53 RBI. Zack Cozart has hit 115 times with 67 runs and 48 RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Ivan Nova in the start Thursday. Nova has 27 games (21 starts) to his credit, with an 11-6 record, a 4.34 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP over 134.2 innings. In his most recent outing, Nova bagged a no-decision against the Brewers with six innings, five hits and two earned.
Pittsburgh has several key hitters on their roster. Starling Marte has 151 hits with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Josh Harrison holds 132 hits with 54 runs and 54 RBI. Andrew McCutchen has 127 hits with 70 runs, 20 homers and 60 RBI.
The Reds are 0-4 in their last four overall, and 24-51 in their last 75 road games. Cincinnati is also 0-4 in their last four road games against a right-handed starter, and 9-1 in Straily’s last 10 starts.
As for the Pirates, they’re 1-5 in their last six game ones of a series, and 1-8 in their last nine overall. Pittsburgh is also 5-1 in Nova’s last six starts, and 5-1 in Nova’s last six starts on grass.
The Pirates are in a tailspin right now, but the Reds at home should be exactly the cure for what ails them. I’ll take Pittsburgh.
