The Line: Oakland Athletics +138 / Seattle Mariners -148 --- Over/Under: 8.5 See the Latest Odds
The Seattle Mariners look to snap out of their losing ways as they head into the Coliseum to face off with the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
The Mariners look to carry over some momentum from their series with the Rangers as they continue their divisional show down against the Athletics over the weekend and with a five game deficit looking at them in the wild card race they know they need to find a way to start winning baseball games. Seattle will send Hisashi Iwakuma to the hill in this one as he will face off against Daniel Mengden who hasn’t had a very strong season and while the pitching matchup favours the visiotrs here they know they need to keep the Athletics offense in check who isn’t overbearing with their power but have solid fundamentals and can frustrate teams, especially at home.
USA TODAY Sports
The Athletics have some work to do this offseason if they’re going to get back into thick of things in the American League West next year as they don’t have a ton of pieces to build around in the lineup and they are still reeling from the woeful deal that send Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays. Oakland does have some nice prospects coming their way after some trade deadline deals and they always seem to do a good job in finding the next big name in baseball as they have churned out some also rans into MVP candidates and they are hoping for some more of that next year.
The M’s are 0-4 in Iwakuma’s last four starts, 0-5 in their last five road games, and 4-11 in their last 15 overall while the A’s are 2-9 in their last 11 against the AL West, 1-5 in Mengden’s last six starts, and 1-5 in their last six against a team with a winning record. Seattle desperately needs a win here and while Iwakuma hasn’t been great this season I expect him to get it done in this one.
