The New York Yankees look for a win versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday to stay in the playoff race.
The Tampa Bay Rays haven’t won a lot of games but they have beaten some playoff hopefuls. That didn’t happen Saturday in a 5-1 loss at the Yankees to hand the Rays their 5th loss in six contests where neither the arms or bats came through. TB starter Chris Archer fell to 8-18 with three runs allowed on four hits including a pair of homers before Enny Romero gave up two more to put the game out of reach. Tampa Bay mustered six hits with Bobby Wilson’s 6th homer accounting for the scoring.Matt Andriese toes the rubber against the Yankees for the second time this season. Andriese has been hit hard the past two times out with 14 runs scoring on 19 hits over nine innings.

The New York Yankees have been winning lately and to keep doing it to give themselves a chance at the playoffs. The Yankees stayed on a roll with their 7th consecutive victory which also kept them in the postseason picture. Yanks starter Masahiro Tanaka improved to 13-4 with a run allowed through 7.1 innings while striking out ten. The Bronx Bombers were held to six hits and a base on balls with Jacoby Ellsbury and Gary Sanchez both clubbing long balls and driving in two runs apiece. The Yankees hand the ball to rookie Luis Cessa for just his 5th career start and first versus the Rays. Cessa is 4-0 on the season with a 1.14 WHIP and 4.07 ERA but has been prone to the long ball.
The over is 10-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 11 road games and is 10-1 in their last 11 on grass while going is 27-6 in their last 33 overall. The over is 10-4 in the Yankees last 14 home games. I’ll stick with the hot home team and hope they hit more homers…
