Up at Rogers Centre on Sunday, the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays will be wrapping up their weekend MLB series.
On Friday, the Red Sox took a rousing 13-3 win. In Saturday’s game, Toronto struck back with a 3-2 win of their own.
USA TODAY Sports
For Sunday’s matchup, the Red Sox are bringing out RHP Clay Buchholz. In 33 appearances (17 starts) and a 6-10 record this year, Buchholz has logged a 4.99 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP in 117.1 innings. Buchholz got a win against San Diego his last time up with eight hits and one earned.
Boston has some nice hitters available to them. Mookie Betts has hit 187 times with 107 runs, 30 homers and 101 RBI. Dustin Pedroia has hit 180 times with 93 runs and 65 RBI. Xander Bogaerts sits on 171 hits with 100 runs and 81 RBI.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Aaron Sanchez in the start on Sunday. In his 26 starts and 13-2 record this year, Sanchez owns a 2.92 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP in 169.1 innings. Sanchez took a no-decision his last time out with seven innings, five hits and three earned.
The Blue Jays aren’t hurting for offense, either. Josh Donaldson has hit 147 times with 110 runs, 34 homers and 92 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion holds 139 hits with 87 runs, 37 homers and 112 RBI. Kevin Pillar has hit 126 times with 52 runs and 48 RBI.
The Red Sox are 4-10 in their last 14 game threes of a series, and 1-4 in their last five Sunday games. Boston is also 5-1 in Buchholz’s last six starts on astroturf, and 9-4 in Buchholz’s last 13 Sunday starts.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games, and 8-1 in Sanchez’s last nine starts with four days’ rest. Toronto is also 7-2 in Sanchez’s last nine home starts, and 15-7 in Sanchez’s last 22 starts overall.
This should be a pretty tight game, as the pitching matchup is solid. That said, I like the Red Sox to get the finale victory, as Toronto simply hasn’t been playing all that well.
