The Texas Rangers look to shake off a divisional road loss in Anaheim as they head into Minute Maid Park to battle Houston Astros on Monday.
The Rangers look to get back in the win column and create some separation in the race for the AL West crown as they take on another divisional for in the Astros who head into tonight’s game sitting 9.5 games back. Texas will send Martins Perez to the hill here who will face off against Doug Fister in a battle of two pitchers who haven’t had the great statistical seasons as the former is 10-10 with a 4.25 ERA while the former is 12-11 with a 4.14 mark and with both teams being able to smash the ball out of the stadium this could be one of those show downs where we see plenty of fireworks and plenty of souvenirs for the fans.

The Astros continue their chase for an AL Wild Card spot and after a tough outing last night they know a divisional show down at home against their in-state rivals could dictate the momentum for their stretch run. Houston has a ton of weapons and were considered a World Series contender in the spring but a lackluster rotation has foiled those plans and now they are fighting tooth and nail just to get into a playoff spot and even that might not be enough. This should be a great series between two of the better lineups in baseball and with the home stretch in sight it could also be the last push that send Jose Altuve home with an MVP award this season.
The Rangers are 8-2 in their last 10 series openers, 10-4 in their last 14 overall, and 8-2 in Perez’ last 10 against the AL West while the Astros are 4-1 in their last five Monday games, 4-1 in their last five home games, and 9-3 in their last 12 against a lefty. This is going to be an exciting series and while I know the Astros are the more desperate group it is the Rangers who are the better team and that is the difference in the end here.
