Over at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies will be resuming their MLB series.
In Monday’s series opener, the Phillies snagged a 6-2 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
Taking the mound for the Pirates on Tuesday will be RHP Ivan Nova. In his 28 games (22 starts) so far, Nova holds a 12-6 record, a 4.13 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 143.2 innings. Nova bagged a complete-game win against Cincinnati his last time out, with six hits and one earned.
The Pirates have a few interesting bats in their order. Starling Marte has hit 151 times with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Josh Harrison holds 138 hits with 57 runs and 59 RBI. Andrew McCutchen has logged 128 hits with 71 runs, 20 homers and 62 RBI.
Over on the Phillies’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Alec Asher in the starting role Tuesday. In his lone start this year, Asher allowed two hits and no earned in six innings against the Nationals.
It’s easy to find the Phillies stars in their order. Odubel Herrera has hit 143 times with 73 runs and 42 RBI. Cesar Hernandez holds 138 hits with 57 runs and 36 RBI. Maikel Franco has bagged 126 hits with 55 runs, 22 homers and 74 RBI.
The Pirates are 0-4 in their last four game twos of a series, and 6-1 in Nova’s last seven starts. Pittsburgh is also 6-1 in Nova’s last seven starts on grass, and 1-5 in their last six games against the National League East.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 1-4 in their last five game twos of a series, and 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games. Philadelphia is also 2-6 in Asher’s last eight starts and 1-4 in Asher’s last five home starts.
With Nova on the mound, I don’t see a whole lot of ways the Pirates can lose this game. I’ll take Pittsburgh in a big victory here.
