The Cleveland Indians look to shake off another ugly outing as they continue their series on the road against the Chicago White Sox.
The Indians spoiled an opportunity to move closer to top spot in the American League with another tough outing on the road against the White Sox but thanks to a pretty substantial lead in the AL Central division lead they are still sitting pretty for a postseason berth. The Tribe head into this game sitting 10-4 in their last 14 games and are still playing some of the best baseball in the league but their last two games haven’t gone according to plan and now they send Josh Tomlin to the hill in an attempt to salvage the series as he will go up against Carlos Rodon. Tomlin is 11-8 with a 4.85 ERA and he will look to improve on those numbers here down the stretch while Rodon is 7-8 with a 3.80 mark and will use his last handful of starts to earn himself a place in the rotation next season.

The White Sox have started to pick up the pace a little bit and continue to be an inconsistent bunch that had a shot at the playoffs but couldn’t maintain a high level of play throughout the season which looks like it’ll ultimately cost them. Chicago does have some pop in their bats and two very strong parts of their rotation including Jose Quintana who got the win yesterday but beyond he and Chris Sale the White Sox are a bit thin in the rotation and while Rodon can throw some gas he has been susceptible to the long ball as well and is a microcosm of how this team has played this season.
The Tribe are 3-7 in their last 10 road games, 14-3 in Tomlin’s last 17 starts against the AL Central, and 1-5 in his last six starts overall while the White Sox are 4-0 in Rodon’s last four home starts, 5-1 in his last six starts on four days rest, and 1-4 in Rodon’s last five during game three of a series. Cleveland has struggled over the last two nights but I think they bounce back here behind a strong outing from Tomlin.
