The Washington Nationals make a trip to Turner Field to open a series with the Atlanta Braves.
The Washington Nationals are quickly heading for the National League East title and it’s shouldn’t be long with the team logging wins in eight of ten after squeezing by the Mets 1-0 Wednesday. The Nationals don’t always dominate but they usually find a way to win and their pitching got the job done Wednesday. Nats starter Tanner Roark improved to 15-8 with three hits allowed over seven scoreless innings. Washington logged six hits and a pair of bases on balls with Wilson Ramos clubbing his 21st long ball. Washington opens the series at Atlanta looking for his 5th consecutive quality start. Scherzer comes off a 3-0 win versus the Phillies with a four hit shutout over 6.2 frames.

The Atlanta Braves have had a typical rebuilding type season where the win column is lacking. The Braves have dropped seven of ten following a 7-5 defeat against visiting Miami on Wednesday night. Bravos starter Julio Teheran was charged with all five runs to fall 5-10 on six hits through 5.1 innings. Atlanta posted nine hits and walked twice with Nick Markakis launching a two run homer while Matt Kemp drove in a run and scored. Rookie John Gant takes the hill against the Nationals for his 7th start of the season. Gant comes off a 4-3 loss versus the Mets with three runs allowed (one earned) on four hits and four BB in 4.2 frames.
The under is 8-0 in Washington’s last 8 road games and the under is 13-3-1 in their last 17 overall while going 13-3-1 in their last 17 on grass. The over is 17-4 in Atlanta’s last 21 games following a loss and the over is 21-5-1 in their last 27 overall while going 21-5-1 in ATL last 27 on grass. The over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings and the Nationals are 36-16 in the last 52 meetings. I’m going with the hot team on a mission…
