Tampa Bay banged out 12 hits and walked three times with Evan Longoria going 2-5 with a homer and five RBI’s while Steven Souza Jr. knocked in a run and scored. Chris Archer draws the series opening start at Baltimore on Friday night. Archer looks to rebound from a 5-1 defeat at the Yankees with three runs given up on four hits including two homers in seven innings.

The Baltimore Orioles are trying to overtake the Red Sox for the American League East lead while also eyeing the Wild Card. The Orioles had won four of five but their pitching struggled Thursday night. O’s starter Yovani Gallardo was charged with six runs on seven hits and a pair of BB through 3.1 innings to absorb the loss before relievers were able to stop the bleeding. The Birds posted nine hits and walked five times with JJ Hardy driving in three while Matt Weiters went 2-4 with two runs driven in and two scored. Ubaldo Jimenez hopes to stay hot when he opposes Tampa Bay on Friday for the third time. Jimenez has been on fire lately with a 2-0 record with a o.74 WHIP and 3.18 ERA.
