The New York Mets will be fighting for their playoff lives when the Minnesota Twins visit Friday.
The Minnesota Twins have a record that says it all and it doesn’t seem as if things are getting any better. The Twins had dropped seven of ten before controlling the big bats of Detroit in a 5-1 victory where both the arms and bats contributed. Minnesota starter Hector Santiago improved to 12-8 with the lone run plated on six hits over 5.2 frames before three relievers kept the Tigers scoreless. The Twins pounded out eleven hits with Brian Dozier driving in two runs while Eddie Rosario went 3-4 with a pair of runs. Rookie Jose Berrios will be on the bump for his first crack at interleague play. On the season, Berrios has mad eleven starts and has gone 2-6 with a 2.01 WHIP and 9.27 ERA.

The New York Mets need to end the final weeks of the season playing well to have a shot at the postseason. The Mets have lost two of three after a 1-0 road loss to National League East leader Washington on Wednesday night . The bats were silent which wasted a strong effort on the mound from NYM starter Robert Gsellman who tossed 5.2 scoreless innings before Fernando Sales served up a walk off homer to absorb the loss. New York was held to three hits and four walks but never got that big hit. Veteran Bartolo Colon is scheduled to open the series on the mound against Minnesota. Colon’s final year has been a good one where he has gone 13-7 with a 3.27 ERA.
Minnesota are 1-12 in their last 13 road games and are 5-21 in their last 26 overall while the over is 18-5-3 in their last 26 interleague games. The Mets are 9-3 in their last 12 home games and are 8-3 in their last 11 overall while going 8-3 in their last 11 games on grass. I personally believe the Mets better have a good series…
