The Texas Rangers look for another home field victory as they welcome their division rivals the Los Angeles Angels to town on Wednesday.
The Angels held a brief 3-1 lead in the early stages of yesterday’s game with the Rangers before Texas opened up in the third, fourth, and fifth in what finished a 5-4 final for the home side who are inching closer to clinching the division. The Angels have had a rough go this season but still have a pretty formidable roster and can give any team a fit on any given night and that is a great sign moving forward even if they are relying a ton on the aging Albert Pujols. The Halos are built around perennial MPV candidate Mike Trout who is having another exceptional season but the team knows that his window of productivity could be getting smaller and they need to surround him with some pieces in a hurry if they’re going to have any shot at winning a World Series.

The Rangers meanwhile are in a great position to win now and their moves at the trade deadline supports that claim as they are all in right now and have the lineup to achieve a banner season. Texas Is loaded across the board with guys like Carlos Beltran, Adrian Beltre, Jonathan Lucroy, and Rougned Odor to name a few and their rotation is equally as daunting as Cole Hamels leads the way and will be a huge determinant in how far this team will go this season. Texas will send Derek Holland to the mound here as he will face off against Jered Weaver who will look to get the Angels out of their 3-7 slump and play spoiler to their division rivals if just for one evening.
The Angels are 4-1 in Weaver’s last five starts, 3-10 in their last 13 games overall, and 9-21 in their last 30 road games while the Rangers are 0-5 in their last five during game three of a series, 17-8 in their last 25 against the AL West, and 41-20 in Holland’s last 61 home starts. The Angels do have the bats to compete here but I think Holland gives a bit of an edge over Weaver and Texas should get another win.
