PNC Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates play host to the Washington Nationals.
The Washington Nationals are the likely National League East champs but they have been struggling. The Nationals had dropped four in a row before blasting Miami 8-3 on Wednesday night with both the arms and bats contributing. Nats starter was strong as usual with a pair of runs given up on two solo jacks over 6.2 frames to improve to 18-7. Washington totaled eight hits and walked four times with Trea Turner going solo while Ryan Zimmerman cracked a three run jack. Left hander Gio Gonzalez looks to get back in the win column when he faces Pittsburgh. Gonzalez comes off a 7-3 loss at Atlanta with six runs plated on nine hits over 4.1 innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been surging the last few weeks but the best they can hope for is a winning record. The Pirates were looking good with wins in seven of ten before their offense failed them in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat at Milwaukee. Buccos starter Ryan Vogelsong gave up a pair of runs on two hits and two bases on balls through four innings to absorb the loss. Pittsburgh was held to five hits and three walks with Fracisco Cervelli providing the scoring with his first long ball. Rookie Jameson Taillon toes the rubber for his first career match up with the Nationals. Taillon defeated the Reds 10-4 last time out with three runs allowed in five frames.
The under is 11-3 in Washington’s last 14 road games and the under is 9-3-1 in their last 13 overall while going 9-3-1 in their last 13 on grass. Pittsburgh are 3-13 in their last 16 home games and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 Friday games while the Pirates are 10-3 in Taillon’s last 13 starts. Washington are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings. I think I prefer the rookie hurler here…
