The Boston Red Sox continue their series at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Boston Red Sox have been winning and inching closer to the American League East crown. It seems another day equals another win and it did Friday in a 2-1 win at Tropicana Field as the Red Sox have won nine in a row. Boston starter Drew Pomeranz picked up the win with the lone run allowed on four hits over five frames. The Red Sox banged out nine hits and walked five times with David Ortiz going deep and driving in both runs. Rick Porcello shoots for his 22nd win when he faces Tampa Bay for the 6th time in 2016. Porcello comes off a 5-2 win at Baltimore with both runs given up in a complete game effort.

The Tampa Bay Rays have struggled in 2016 but could be a huge spoiler by beating Boston Saturday. The Rays weren’t spoilers in the series opener as the bats never got going. TB starter Chris Archer allowed both runs on seven hits and a pair of BB through six innings to absorb the loss. Tampa Bay was held to six hits an a walk with Mikie Mahtook accounting for their lone run with his second long ball. Tampa Bay is scheduled to send Matt Andriese to the bump Saturday to oppose the Red Sox. Andriese defeated the Orioles on the road last time out with both runs given up in 5.1 frames
Boston are 16-5 in their last 21 overall and are 23-8 in Porcello’s last 31 starts while the over is 9-4 in Porcello’s last 13 road starts. The over is 6-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 8 Saturday games and is 20-8 in their last 28 on astroturf while going 20-8 in their last 28 home games. Boston are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. Tough to go against Boston right now…
