We’ve got a great MLB matchup headed our way on Tuesday from PNC Park, as the Chicago Cubs will visit the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In Monday’s opener of this series, the Cubs scored six runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 12-2 blowout victory.

For Tuesday’s game, the Cubs will be bringing out RHP John Lackey. In his 28 starts and 10-8 record, Lackey owns a 3.39 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 183.1 innings. In a win against the Reds his last time out, Lackey put up seven innings with five hits and two earned.
The Cubs have an embarrassment of riches in their lineup. Kris Bryant has bagged 174 hits with 120 runs, 39 homers and 101 RBI. Anthony Rizzo sits on 166 hits with 91 runs, 31 homers and 105 RBI. Ben Zobrist has hit 138 times with 90 runs and 72 RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Ryan Vogelsong in the start on Tuesday. Across 22 games, 12 starts and a 3-6 record, Vogelsong owns a 4.85 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP in 72.1 innings. In a loss against the Brewers his last time up, Vogelsong put up four innings with two hits and two earned.
Pittsburgh’s top hitters look pretty good as well. Starling Marte sits on 152 hits with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Andrew McCutchen has bagged 149 hits with 81 runs, 24 homers and 75 RBI. Josh Harrison currently has 138 hits with 57 runs and 59 RBI.
The Cubs are 11-5 in their last 16 game twos of a series, and 42-20 in their last 62 Tuesday games. Chicago is also 6-2 in Lackey’s last eight starts, and 1-4 in Lackey’s last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 6-2 in their last eight Tuesday games, and 3-8 in Vogelsong’s last 11 starts in game two of a series. Pittsburgh is also 1-4 in Vogelsong’s last five starts, and 4-17 in Vogelsong’s last 21 starts versus a team with a winning record.
There aren’t too many teams I’d pick against the Cubs, and Pittsburgh isn’t one of them. I expect Lackey and the North Siders to take care of business here.
