Headed our way from Nationals Park on Tuesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In Monday’s opener, Arizona scored five runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to cruise to a 14-4 victory.

For Tuesday’s game, the Diamondbacks will be bringing out RHP Matt Koch in the start. Zach Greinke was originally slated to start here, but he’s suffering from shoulder tightness. Koch has five games, a 1-1 record, a 1.29 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP to his credit this year in seven innings.
It’s not hard to find the notable hitters on the D-Backs’ roster. Jean Segura has hit 196 times with 94 runs and 63 RBI. Paul Goldschmidt sits on 168 hits with 103 runs, 23 homers and 91 RBI. Yasmani Tomas has bagged 139 hits with 71 runs, 30 homers and 80 RBI.
Over on the Nationals’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Max Scherzer on Tuesday. In his 32 starts and 18-7 record, Scherzer has a 2.82 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP in 217.1 innings. Scherzer put up a win in Miami his last time out, going 6.2 innings with four hits and three earned.
Washington has some nice hitters in their arsenal as well. Daniel Murphy (who is currently shut down) has bagged 184 hits with 88 runs, 25 homers and 104 RBI. Anthony Rendon sits on 148 hits with 88 runs and 81 RBI. As for Wilson Ramos, he’s got 148 hits with 58 runs, 22 homers and 80 RBI.
The Diamondbacks are 3-7 in their last 10 Tuesday games, and 5-17 in their last 22 game twos of a series. Arizona is also 2-5 in their last seven overall, and 8-3 in their last 11 against the National League East.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games, and 4-0 in Scherzer’s last four starts in game two of a series. Washington is also 4-0 in Scherzer’s last four starts against the National League West, and 5-1 in Scherzer’s last six starts with five days’ rest.
Scherzer has been pitching pretty well lately, and I don’t think the D-Backs will pose much of a threat to him. I’ll take the Nationals here.
