The Los Angeles Dodgers look to stay sharp before they begin their playoff push as they take on the San Diego Padres at Petco on Wednesday.
The Dodgers wrapped up the NL West crown in their final home game of the season and now play out the string before their postseason begins, and without any chance of catching the Cubs for top spot they could resort to resting some guys down the stretch. The Dodgers are two games behind the Nationals for second in the National League and whoever comes out ahead at season’s end will have home field advantage in the divisional series round so you can be sure that they are going to give it their all and not take any nights off as they would love to have the Nats come into Chavez Ravine for the bulk of the series instead of having to travel across the country for an extra game.

The Padres have had a tough go this season but can take some pride in having their way with the division champions in the final series of the season against them and last night was a pretty good start. San Diego has a ways to go before they will be back in the discussion as a playoff team in the NL West and with the Dodgers, Giants, and Rockies all possessing a pretty solid core and the Diamondbacks battling injuries all season and should be able to rebound, it has the makings of a couple seasons in the basement for the Friars. San Diego will send Luis Perdomo to the mound here as he looks to get the best out of Jose De Leon in a battle of two young pitchers with a bright future ahead.
The Dodgers are 13-3 in their last 16 against the NL West, 11-4 in their last 15 during game two of a series, and 41-20 in their last 61 against a righty while the Padres are 5-2 in their last seven against a team with a winning record, 1-5 in their last six Wednesday games, and 5-2 in their last seven Perdomo starts against a team with a winning record. The Dodgers need to keep winning games despite making the playoffs and with De Leon on the hill I think he is more than capable of getting it done, even on the road.
