The Washington Nationals and Arizona Cardinals continue their weekday series on Wednesday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks never got going early in the season and that trend stayed with them the entire year. The Diamondbacks were looking good for five innings before the roof caved in in a 4-2 defeat at Washington on Tuesday. Snakes starter Matt Koch gave up two runs over five frames before Randall Delgado gave up two more in one inning. The D-Backs were held to six hits and walked twice with Jean Segura going deep while Welington Castillo drove in Jake Lamb. The Diamondbacks send Shelby Miller to the hill for game three of their series at Washington. Miller comes off his best start of the year when he tossed six shutout innings at Baltimore.

The Washington Nationals look to finish the regular season strong to gain momentum for the playoffs. The Nationals offense looked lifeless until a four run 6th but starter Max Scherzer kept his team in the game with both runs allowed through six innings to up his record to 18-7. The Nats did their damage on three hits and a pair of bases on balls with Anthony Rendon cracking a three run homer while Stephen Drew smacked a sacrifice fly. Left hander Gio Gonzalez gets the ball against the Diamondbacks for Wednesday’s start. Gonzalez did not get a decision in a 6-5 loss at Pittsburgh with two runs allowed in five frames.
