The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks wrap up their regular seasons with a division show down in the desert starting on Friday.
The Padres haven’t had a great season and unloaded some pieces in the early going as they basically conceded before the all-star break and before they take off for the winter they will look to finish strong against another struggling team in Arizona. The Padres have enjoyed a nice bounce back season from WIl Myers but they is all they have had to cheer about as wins have been few and far between for the Friars this season and they need to provide some support for Myers both in the lineup and in the rotation. San Diego will send Edwin Jackson to the hill here as he will take on Braden Shipley who is 4-5 with a 5.26 ERA and will be auditioning for a spot in the rotation next season with a big effort at home here.

The Diamondbacks were expected to be one of the top teams in the National League this season but early injuries and some underachieving effort sin the rotation has contributed to a tough result this season and they need to go back to the drawing board this winter. Arizona will have to contend with the veteran presence of Edwin Jackson here who is 5-6 with a 5.77 ERA but he is still capable of throwing a gem and while this series don’t have any implications I think it could end up being a very exciting contest between two teams looking to prove their worth.
The Padres are 6-2 in their last eight series openers, 1-4 in Jackson’s last five road starts, and 4-1 in their last five against the NL West while the D-Backs are 5-2 in their last seven home games, 2-5 in their last seven overall, and 0-4 in their last four Friday games. The D-Backs are the better team overall and while this doesn’t matter much I think the Snakes get the win at home.
