The St. Louis Cardinals need a win versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates to keep pace in the Wild Card race.
The Pittsburgh Pirates lone goal this weekend is to ruin the Cardinals shot at the postseason. The Pirates were shooting for back to back wins before weather stopped their game with the Cubs when it was tied 1-1 in the top of the 6th. Knowing MLB they will finish this even though it means nothing with the season already 25 games too long. It’s been too long for the Pirates with injuries always a problem while their pitching wasn’t as strong as we’ve seen so look for some changes in 2017. Rookie Tyler Glasnow gets the ball for the 4th time in 2016 and for the second time against the Cardinals. Through three starts, Glasnow has gone 0-1 with a 1.76 Whip and 6.35 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the Wild Card race but have been looking real bad. The Cardinals had dropped five of seven before downing the Reds 4-3 to take a step towards the Wild Card. Redbirds starter Alex Reyes allowed a run through six innings with Zach Duke and Seung Hwan Oh giving up runs. St. Louis logged nine hits and walked three times with Jedd Gyorko going solo while Yadier Molina going deep and driving in two. Carlos Martinez toes the rubber against the Pirates for the 4th time this season on Friday. Martinez comes off of a 3-1 loss at the Cubs with two runs given up on six hits in six frames.
Pittsburgh are 6-2 in their last 8 road games and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 road games. The under is 7-2 in St. Louis last 9 home games and is 13-6 in their last 19 overall while going 13-6 in their last 19 on grass.
This game is absolutely crucial for the Cardinals so I’ll back the desperate squad Friday…
