Pitching for Chicago on Saturday will be lefty Jon Lester. In his 31 starts and 19-4 record, Lester has managed a 2.28 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP in 197.2 innings. In a win over the Cardinals his last time up, Lester went 6.2 innings with three hits and no earned.
Chicago isn’t hurting for hitters. Kris Bryant heads the charge on 175 hits with 121 runs, 39 homers and 102 RBI. Anthony Rizzo has bagged 168 hits with 93 runs, 32 homers and 108 RBI. Ben Zobrist holds 141 hits with 93 runs and 74 RBI.
Over on the Reds’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Tim Adleman on Saturday. In his 12 starts and 3-4 record, Adleman has a 3.90 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 64.2 innings. In a win over the Cardinals his last time up, Adleman put up seven innings with four hits and two earned.
It’s pretty easy to find the big hitters in the Cincinnati lineup. Joey Votto has bagged 177 hits with 100 runs, 29 homers and 94 RBI. Brandon Phillips has hit 160 times with 74 runs and 64 RBI. Eugenio Suarez has bagged 138 hits with 77 runs, 20 homers and 66 RBI.
The Cubs are 41-20 in their last 61 game twos of a series, and 0-5 in their last five Saturday games. Chicago is also 9-0 in Lester’s last nine road starts versus a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in Lester’s last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-1 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter, and 6-2 in their last eight Saturday games. Cincinnati is also 2-5 in Adleman’s last seven starts, and 1-4 in Adleman’s last five home starts.
Looking at the pitching matchup here on paper, there’s really no comparison. Lester should be able to come out and dominate, putting the Cubs in a great position to win.
