The Line: St. Louis Cardinals / Pittsburgh Pirates --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Pittsburgh Pirates continue their series with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
The Pittsburgh Pirates were a tough team the past few years but they just didn’t have the horses in 2016. The Pirates have been in a funk that continued Friday in a 7-0 loss at St. Louis for their 6th defeat in seven contests. Buccos starter Tyler Glasnow allowed a run over five frames but the pen struggled with Trevor Williams and Zach Phillips giving up six runs. Pitt was held to five hits and a base on balls with Gregory Polanco singling and walking. Rookie Chad Kuhl toes the rubber against the Cardinals for the second time this year. Kuhl comes off a 12-1 loss to the Cubs where he gave up five runs on eight hits over three innings.

For a team that is fighting for their playoff lives, the St. Louis Cardinals are struggling at the wrong time. The Cardinals were looking bad with defeats in five of eight before putting everything together in Friday nights victory at Busch Stadium. Cards starter Carlos Martinez came up huge with seven scoreless innings and nine strikeouts. The Redbirds did their damage on six hits and five walks with Jedd Gyorko, Brandon Moss and Matt Holliday each clubbing long balls. I see Michael Wacha might start but I wouldn’t bet my life on it.
Pittsburgh are 6-2 in their last 8 road games and the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 road games while the Pirates are 9-4 in Kuhl’s last 13 starts. The under is 8-2 in Cardinals last 10 home games and the under is 14-6 in their last 20 overall while going 14-6 in their last 20 on grass. I’ll ride the team needing the win but on the -1 line if higher then -165…
