Coming up on Sunday in MLB activity, the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will be finishing out their series.
In Friday’s opener, the Mets took a 5-1 victory. On Saturday, the Mets bagged a 5-3 win.
USA TODAY Sports
Pitching for the Mets on Sunday will be RHP Noah Syndergaard. In 31 starts, 30 games and a 14-9 record, Syndergaard holds a 2.60 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP in 183.2 innings. Syndergaard put up a win his last time out against Miami with five hits and one earned in six innings.
The Mets have some noteworthy batters at their disposal. Asdrubal Cabrera has 145 hits with 65 runs, 23 homers and 62 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes has hit 134 times with 72 runs, 31 homers and 86 RBI. Curtis Granderson has put up 129 hits with 86 runs, 30 homers and 61 RBI.
Over on the Phillies side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jerad Eickhoff in the start Sunday. In 32 starts and a 11-14 record, Eickhoff carries a 3.72 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP in 191.1 innings. Eickhoff took a no-decision against the Braves his last time up, with four innings, one hit and one earned.
It’s not hard to find the key Phillies hitters on the roster. Odubel Herrera has bagged 166 hits with 49 RBI and 87 runs. Cesar Hernandez holds 158 hits with 66 runs and 38 RBI. Maikel Franco has hit 143 times with 65 runs, 25 homers and 87 RBI.
The Mets are 10-1 in their last 11 Sunday games, and 5-0 in Syndergaard’s last five road starts. New York is 4-0 in Syndergaard’s last four Sunday starts, and 4-1 in Syndergaard’s last five starts with four days’ rest.
As for the Phillies, they’re 2-6 in their last eight game threes of a series, and 0-4 in their last four Sunday games. Philadelphia is also 7-3 in Eickhoff’s last 10 starts in game three of a series, and 1-6 in Eickhoff’s last seven starts with four days’ rest.
I don’t think Eickhoff will get enough run support here to be effective, so Syndergaard should waltz right through this game. I’ll take the Mets.
