Coming up on Sunday from Busch Stadium, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will be finishing things up in MLB action.
In Friday’s opener, the Cardinals took a 7-0 win. On Saturday, the Cardinals eked out a 4-3 victory.

Pitching for the Pirates on Sunday will be RHP Ryan Vogelsong. In his 23 games, 13 starts and 3-7 record this year, Vogelsong holds a 5.00 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP in 77.1 innings. In a loss to the Cubs his last time out, Vogelsong put up five innings with four earned and four hits.
Pittsburgh has a host of interesting hitters on their roster. Starling Marte has managed 152 hits with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Andrew McCutchen sits on 151 hits with 81 runs, 24 homers and 77 RBI. Josh Harrison has logged 138 hits with 57 runs and 59 RBI.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Adam Wainwright in the starting role Saturday. In his 32 starts and 13-9 record, Wainwright has put up a 4.67 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 192.2 innings. In a win over the Reds his last time up, Wainwright produced 5.2 innings with 10 hits and five earned.
St. Louis has some noteworthy hitters as well. Yadier Molina leads the way on 161 hits with 55 runs and 57 RBI. Stephen Piscotty has logged 157 hits with 85 runs, 22 homers and 84 RBI. Matt Carpenter has bagged 127 hits with 80 runs, 20 homers and 64 RBI.
The Pirates are 0-4 in their last four Sunday games, and 1-4 in Vogelsong’s last five Sunday starts. Pittsburgh is also 1-5 in Vogelsong’s last six starts against the National League Central, and 1-5 in Vogelsong’s last six starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 1-4 in their last five game threes of a series, and 22-8 in Wainwright’s last 30 Sunday starts. St. Louis is also 43-18 in Wainwright’s last 61 starts in game three of a series, and 43-19 in Wainwright’s last 62 home starts.
With Wainwright on the mound, I don’t think there’s any way the Pirates get a victory here. I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in Vogelsong, either. Give me St. Louis in a blowout.
