The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs play game one of the NLCS Saturday night at Wrigley Field on FS1.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off a five-game series win over the Washington Nationals. The Dodgers needed everything to make it out of that Washington series, including forcing Kenley Jansen to pitch a career high in game five and using Clayton Kershaw on short rest. The Dodgers pitching staff has to be completely spent, but I’m sure Los Angeles will take it rather than being on the couch right now. The good news is that the Dodgers offense has stepped up, as four players have at least four hits and LA combined for six home runs in the series against the Nats. Justin Turner leads Los Angeles with six hits and five RBI while Joc Pederson and Adrian Gonzalez have combined for nine hits and five RBI. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 12 of their last 14 games when scoring more than three runs. The Dodgers haven’t listed a starting pitcher at the time of this article was posted.

The Chicago Cubs are coming off a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs have to be feeling great after making a miraculous comeback in game four in which they were down three runs in the ninth inning. The Cubs believe they’re never out of a game until the very end, and that confidence is deadly in series like this one. Javier Baez and Kris Bryant have combined for 12 hits and five RBI while Willson Contreras has four hits on six at bats. The Chicago Cubs have won 11 of their last 15 games when scoring more than three runs. The Cubs have also lost just seven home games since the month of August. Pitching wise, Jon Lester gets the nod, and he was 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA and 197 strikeouts this season. Lester is 7-6 with a 2.63 ERA and 92 strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Dodgers are 5-1 in their last 6 Saturday games and 2-5 in their last 7 games following an off day. The Cubs are 19-7 in their last 26 games following an off day and 23-7 in Lesters last 30 starts. The under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago.
It's hard to give a real pick when you don't know who the starting pitcher for the Dodgers is going to be. However, after game five, I think it's quite clear LA isn't throwing out Kershaw, Rich Hill or Julio Urias. Regardless, Lester has an ERA of 1.74 at home and has lost just two games since the month of August. Lester has also allowed just one run in his last 21.2 innings of work at home while striking out 17 batters. I'm not sure it matters who is pitching for the Dodgers, as the Cubs offense is red hot, rested and they have a guy on the mound who has owned Wrigley all year, bu has been on another planet as of late.
While the price isn't cheap, the Cubs should take game one against the Dodgers.
